There will be three parts to the day. Firstly, starting at 2 o'clock, there will be a Christian committal service at Liz's church in Duffield which will last about 45 minutes, and to which all are invited. Liz will then be moved to Derby Crematorium for the final goodbye which will be attended strictly by family members only.

Liz has specifically requested "No Black" so please, ladies, something with some colour to it (those of you who can - red was one of Liz's best colours - see photo above) and gentlemen something colourful in the tie department please. Nothing outrageous though - that wasn't Liz's style.

Then, afterwards, there will be a "Memories of Liz" at Blackbrook House just outside Belper to which all are invited. The family will arrive a little after everyone else firstly because they will have been to the crematorium, but also because I will certainly need a little time on my own.

The idea of "Memories of Liz" is that as many of Liz's relatives, friends, and acquaintances as possible will gather to share a glass of wine, something to eat (hopefully including a couple of Liz's much loved "bacon butties") and some memories of her. There will be an "open mic" and you will be encouraged to recount your stories to one and all. Funny stories, endearing stories, inspiring stories - we want to share them every one. Do try, though, to avoid sad stories as it is our hope that our sharing of memories will be a happy affair and Liz definitely wanted the evening not to be sombre. If you are worried about standing up in front of a crowd we will have ways of dealing with that - bring the stories anyway.

Again black will be entirely inappropriate, and something with a bit of colour is definitely required.

It is clearly going to be impossible to organise either the church service, or the evening without some idea of numbers so I would be grateful if you could email me on funeral@chisman.plus.com to let me know how many of your family will be attending either (or both) events.

We have decided to restrict flowers to family only please, but if anyone would like to make a donation to the two charities we will be supporting you can do so either here - McMillan Nurses or the Myeloma Society - or you can donate to the collection at the funeral.
